Review: Dying for a Living Boxset: Books 1-3

Dying for a Living Boxset: Books 1-3 Dying for a Living Boxset: Books 1-3 by Kory M. Shrum
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Very much impressed! Great characters, thoughtful story development. Detailed world-building and steadfast prose style throughout. I will admit it was an impulse purchase on my part, but it gave me hours of entertainment.

Can the series actually get any better? It looks like it can! This story continuation was so good I am genuinely excited for all of the other part of the story yet to come!

The second one in the series definitely keeps on with all of the great things book one had in it, - and ads to it! I really enjoyed this one and am going to book 3 straight away.

Review: Bluescreen

Bluescreen Bluescreen by Dan Wells
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I really like that this book has diverse characters, but other than that it was not quite as impressive as I was hoping. The cover art is marvellous and the world-building is great, plot-wise the book suffers considerably. It has good tension building and the audio version was nicely made, but I honestly will take my time to consider if I will be continuing with the series.

Review: Following Farage: On the Trail of the People's Army

Following Farage: On the Trail of the People's Army Following Farage: On the Trail of the People's Army by Owen Bennett
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It is a book with an interesting premise and a good literal execution in regards to written presentation and it's style. But it did not grab me in any of the normal ways good book can. I enjoyed the humour of it and the commentary it was giving but it was nothing spectacular.

Review: The Power

The Power The Power by Naomi Alderman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a very interesting book, not perfect by any means but it has it's own allure. The sad thing for me is that it looks too much like an unusual feminist propaganda with a lot of man-hating in the mix; but it is written in such a way that it seems righteous in some aspects of it and this part is for me personally, sickening. I enjoyed the suspension of disbelief here, and it will probably look a built different on it's second reading, but for now, this is it!

Review: Returned Broken

Returned Broken Returned Broken by Judith Keller
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was very close to DNFing this book because of the development of the Stockholm Syndrome-esque subplot. It is nicely written and has good characters... But from personal experience there is a reason why, if you will be doing any kind of relief mission overseas, especially related to medicine you have mandatory induction and training in several supplementary fields, - to prevent the above-mentioned "plots" to develop. Other that that, I am glad I finished it, and I enjoyed the book as a whole quite a bit.

Review: Mordacious

Mordacious Mordacious by Sarah Lyons Fleming
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was so happy to find out that a spin-off series had finally started, linking all of us again with the character we thought we lost and with some new people I quite quickly established emotional connections to. It is again a great book, and even more so as a audio-book. I very much enjoyed it and will be re-listening it for sure in the nearest future. Will be getting the new books in the series as soon as they will become available, and hope that the audio version will keep being outstanding!

I loved the book cover. And it was good story with amazingly written dialogues. Gay bar in Cardiff was a great touch, that made me like this book even more. Very satisfying read.

I love the cover of this book - is has a great title (give me "Einstein"-anything and I will try it out for sure!). Stories are reasonably well written. But it did not grasp my attention as I would hope it would.

Review: Cosmopolis

Cosmopolis Cosmopolis by Don DeLillo
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I did not see the movie, and the only role I can tolerate Robert Pattinson is when he is playing Cedric Diggory - and I still gave this book a chance! It is nothing spectacular & still OK, there are some twists and turns to the story that stand out, brandishing good memorable extrapolations and achieving time-limited suspense through writing. For me thou, it lacks something, imperceptible but noticeable. And if you will ask me what it is, I won't be able to answer you straight away; it might be the lacking of the experience of the realness of it. lack of grounding in the story, or something completely different.

Real stories on paper always make me far less critical... it is probably a weakness. Enjoyed the story, despite the heartbreak. Very well thought and presented nicely.

Confessions of a Conjuror Confessions of a Conjuror by Derren Brown
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Derren did it again... you cock! On a more serious note thou, this book was a complete pleasure. It comes full circle story-wise and is an amazing extrapolation of the personal flow of the mind of the author. Quite enjoyable to read, especially the discussion regarding the importance of kindness. Looks like another book will be joining my Best Reads of 2016 list.

Review: Gathering Storm

Gathering Storm Gathering Storm by Maggie Craig
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It is a well-written, nicely researched historical novel, with a nice cover, that is not particularly spectacular but is enticing enough. Romance novels are not my kind of a thing, but there was a lot of different things included in the story that kept me reading.

The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Yes, yes, I admit the goody bag that I received with the book did influence my review, happy now? OK! But it only influenced me to a point of me starting reading, because to be honest with you, the first sentence was enough to keep me going! I love books that understand the importance of the first sentence impact. And the story in itself did not disappoint.

Review: When We Were Friends

When We Were Friends When We Were Friends by Tina Seskis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This one is odd. It is poetically written and quite beautiful, but not remarkably memorable. I loved the mind-sketches of London throughout the book and it was interesting to keep reading and see how it all weaved into a story.

Review: Anything for Her

Anything for Her Anything for Her by Jack Jordan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book made me feel very bad. Which in itself is like a miracle, because I normally can detach my emotional experience from my reading experience. But not with this book! It is wearily depressing, and in this very realistic. I liked the guided journey the author seemingly chose, and despite the fact that it is not at all an easy read. The subject matter is compelling enough to keep on surprising you, and thus making you turn the pages till it is all read.

Review: Neon Phantoms: A Tale of Movie Obsession

Neon Phantoms: A Tale of Movie Obsession Neon Phantoms: A Tale of Movie Obsession by Sean McCloy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was very unusual but in a good way. From the very beginning even the cover helps you as the reader to get to the special state desired and guided throughout the plot. There is an interesting repetition present in the writing, and the book comes full circle, if you are patient enough to keep up with the reading. It is by no means a cheery-make- me-feel-good-kind-of-a-book, but it doers not have to be. Story is intricate and the main character pulls his weight. Creepily sweet!

Review: A New Religion

A New Religion A New Religion by Tim Schumacher
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It was a book that took me quite some time to read through, it has some solid research, good pacing and a lot of detail. But it lacks a spark, at least fro me. It is pleasurable and informative, but did not stand out. I know there will be other people who will enjoy it for sure, and I will pass it along gladly for others to read.

Review: Colonization

Colonization Colonization by Sean Platt
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I dunno, guys. Book 3 is a definite improvement on book 2 but that's about it. It is more engaging then the second one in the series, with a world that had significant changes, and characters that changed, but it is lacking that "human" (pun intended) connection that the Invasion had, at least for me. And that one lack, changes the atmosphere of the book as a whole, and makes it palatable, but boring.

it was a fascinating novel. Blog parts were the absolute best! It was interesting to see the intrigue developing from so many different angles. The cover design was great and the blue coloured theme-orientated design complemented the overall story very well. it had some interesting characters as well as made me interested not only in book 3 which is always a good sign but also in book 1 which I am now considering reading as well. Great time reading for sure!

I did not want to leave this interesting universe and this story gave me a great excuse to keep reading. It was interesting to see a serious situation from a character we already know and yet to see him as vulnerable as he was. Some parts of the narrative surprised me nut did not stop me from reading. I waned to know how it will end and was interested throughout.
