Review: A Clash of Kings

A Clash of Kings A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Second re-read: What I noticed this time more then anything else is the humour. I really enjoyed the jokes and how they were weaven into the story, complimenting it. Characterisation and even the little details related to their development propel the bigger story forward in a way that is compelling to read, and enticed me to keep reading!

Review: The Price of Freedom

The Price of Freedom The Price of Freedom by Lauren Parkes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For me it was a heavy book to read. I enjoyed the heaviness thou. Too many times I see present day YA/children writers, try to make their books "lighthearted" or "easy" and in my personal opinion many young people do not resonate with these attempts. Life is very different not for teenagers then even 20 years ago. Today's kids deal with level of complexity and multi-faceted problems that I never ever even considered when I was their age, and to many times books geared towards them are completely unrelatable. Not this one! One of the memorable enjoyment of reading this book was both the complexity of the story and complexity of the characters, something that is always great to see. I hope this Author will write again, she really has a gift for it.

Review: Amanda the Teen Activist

Amanda the Teen Activist Amanda the Teen Activist by Catherine Kelaher

As a vegan this book sounds amazing to me, I guess I just found a perfect present for my vegan friends who are raising a lovely girl. Will try and go see if it is available for purchase yet, and if not, - when - excited!

Update: It just came through today and I read it in one breath. It was so exciting to read a story of activism! It was relatable, interesting and well written. My copy is already on the way across the country to a lovely Vegan home, to give my friend's children some much needed inspiration!

Review: The Last Princess

The Last Princess The Last Princess by Galaxy Craze
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was great! I am so happy I already have the second book in the series on the ready, because I am reading it straight away. It is always lovely to read a post-apocalyptic story set in the UK, especially if it is written well.

It was a light read and quite humorous. Despite the fact that it was really not my usual preference, I really enjoyed it!

Review: A Game of Thrones

A Game of Thrones A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, I thought that "book is always better then the movie" is a legitimate truth nowadays, I was wrong. Originally the TV series of the same name made me interested in the book series. so I read it to see how it is on paper. For me the TV adaptation is far better then the book, but still am five starring it, because the story itself is worth it!

Update: On the second re-read, I was able to appreciate the written style a lot more, I noticed a huge amount of interesting and thought provoking details, now when I am more familiar with the morld and the characters, this re-read was a delight!

Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions by Brian Christian
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is amazing, I never thought that a book about a subject that was always difficult for me as a child (mathematics) will keep my attention so well. But there it is, in this book mathematics is useful, practicable, and applicable to real life problems, and I think that's why it works so well.

Men on Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream - and Why It Matters Men on Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream - and Why It Matters by Helen Smith

Well, now - after Goodreads for some reason did not save my first review... let's try again!

If I could everyone to just read one book this year, it will be this one. It is now more important then ever. The fundamentalist-religion of third wave feminism contributed to making life unbearable for modern men and boys. And it does not look like it will be getting better any time soon! Both MGTOW and Men's Human Right's activists are gaining remarkably, but in the eyes of the general public the torment and tragedy knows intimately to every man, is ignored, and many still minimise it or blatantly pretend it does not exist.
As an egalitarian or if you prefer just a non-feminist, I implore you please, check this book out it might give you hope that a better future IS possible.

Survival and prepping in a flat (apartment) - yay! A rare thing that people normally do not write about. Very enjoyable with great characterization to boots. Have book 2 to listen too already. Hurry up Audible, get the whole series out there!
