Review: Blue Light Yokohama

Blue Light Yokohama Blue Light Yokohama by Nicolás Obregón
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I will be following this series, it is inevitable. Everything here is first class, from amazing dialogue, to great settings to long lasting impact. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this book! And I am so happy that I was able to read it. This is how modern story telling "should" be. Riveting and grounded in realism. It is amazing to read a book, when it is evident a lot of research was done to make it as it is. Very impressed by the Author's talent.

Review: Neil Perry's Good Cooking

Neil Perry's Good Cooking Neil Perry's Good Cooking by Neil Perry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a very well produced book. It will be a bit difficult to veganize ALL of the cooking included in here, but it will definitely be possible with a bit more easily done recipes. It is a great reference book with some mind blowing artwork photography.

Review: Starshine

Starshine Starshine by G.S. Jennsen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I did take a risk with this book. I found it on one of top best lists online for female sci-fi writers, and it was the only ebook included. I opted-in for the audio-version, and was very pleased with the result. The reading gave it an additional degree of story immersion and made it easier for me to follow the story. I enjoyed the very well written sex scenes as it is pretty rare to see them done properly. The main characters had depth to them and the world-building was interestingly spaced-out (pun intended). I have already invested into the other 5 books in the series and am very much looking forward to reading them.

No Passports for Vegans? My Interview with Nancy Holten

Review: On the Edge of Gone

On the Edge of Gone On the Edge of Gone by Corinne Duyvis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is a strange cookie, it is good but its not OMG kind of good. The different location, the diversity and the story are very interesting, but for me there was a lack of action. I still liked it and will be on a look out for this Author's other books.

Review: Jerusalem Ablaze: Stories of Love and Other Obsessions

Jerusalem Ablaze: Stories of Love and Other Obsessions Jerusalem Ablaze: Stories of Love and Other Obsessions by Orlando Ortega-Medina
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Was able to read this one in just one sitting, and this with short stories not being my cup of tea, usually. Great characterisation, interesting multi-layered stories great for re-reading too. Feel very fortunate that I was able to get myself a copy.

I can only say one thing - this is a must read. I read the edition marked "with a new chapter on Beslan", being North-Ossetian it had touched me deeply...

Review: Dawn

Dawn Dawn by Octavia E. Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was really, really good. Surprisingly so, knowing when it was written. I do have a bit of a problem with books first published before the 90's rolled around, and this one is a great exception. I am so happy to have found this author. Will continue reading fro sure! Just another proof of how desperately do we need diverse books, and how so many great authors do not get exposure big enough just because they do not conform to the overused-mould-of-sameness.

Review: The Last Dragonslayer

The Last Dragonslayer The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This one was a good, restful read. It wasn't super exciting but it was immersive and detailed. The new book cover looks wonderful and I hope that series continuation will grow the story and the lore. I loved the relaxed pace and the odd humour here and there. It was in the end, an interesting reading experience and a thoughtful journey into a new imaginative world.

Review: Hollow World

Hollow World Hollow World by Michael J. Sullivan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a really good book. I was so happy to see a version of an Atheistic future world. And a completely different take on your normal time travel story. It looks like it was a stand alone, but it was a quite nicely written one!
