Review: Ansible: A Thousand Faces:

Ansible: A Thousand Faces: Ansible: A Thousand Faces: by Stant Litore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Actual Rating 5+ Stars

This is by far my most favourite book of 2020! I can not believe I never heard of this author before. This is not just Muslims in Space... it is so much deeper than that! Spiritually, Philosophically and world-building wise, this collection of stories is so intricate. I was blown away! And I read A LOT of Sci-Fi like, really... this does not happen often. I will be following this author closely not only for continuation of this story (fingers-crossed) but also for anything else he has written. If this was THIS GOOD what else am I missing? For real, read this, you will not be dissapointed!
Also, special shout-out for the voice-work of the Audiobook version, - absolutely outstanding work. Marvelously done, so much emotion and depth in the work. Really connected with me.
Will be re-reading for sure, but need a bit of a break to rest and ponder all of the many questions presented in the story.

Review: Armageddon

Armageddon Armageddon by Bobby Akart
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Actual Rating 2.2 Stars

Knocked-off 0.5 Star - Trigger Warning: Transphobia.

I was actually really hopeful about this book, but about smack dab in the middle of the book, Transphobia was just generally displayed like it was nothing. I made allowances in book 1 for the characters right-beliefs, but after all of the Copaganda in both of the books as well as other issues (the gender neutral bathroom scene comes to mind among other things) I just couldn't any more.
I will return both books if possible and will not be continuing with the series.
What a disappointment!

Review: First Strike

First Strike First Strike by Bobby Akart
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a very slow burn book IMHO. If this is not your thing you might not enjoy it as much (it gets better in book 2) I did like the pacing of the story and the characters are really interesting. The exposition dumps can get a bit preachy at times and dumping on anyone not in the right of the US political spectrum is a bother but it is consistent with the character development I suppose.
I am on book 2 now and the story flows a bit better already!

An Extreme Medical Services Christmas: A Short Story About Supernatural Paramedic Dean Flynn An Extreme Medical Services Christmas: A Short Story About Supernatural Paramedic Dean Flynn by Jamie Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The audiobook version of this was perfect length for my work commute. I really missed this universe and after being on a home stretch of Book 7 just wanted something light for the festive period. Can't believe the Series is over! Then again there might be other books in the series in the future and if there will be I will always buy them!

Review: A Desolation Called Peace

A Desolation Called Peace A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the very first words of the dedication in the very beginning of this book, I knew THIS would be a great one for sure!:
"This book is for all the exiles: the displaced the refugee, the stateless; the abandoned and the abandoner; those made desolate and those cast free."

Review to come very soon!
